h1. 1. Introduction

This project is called "Evaluation and test of an optical / L-Band transceiver" and has been developed by Gerald Haennig and Ramon Gomez using the facilities of the Telecom lab of Telecom Bretagne at ISAE-SUPAERO in Toulouse.

The aim of this project is to implement a ground optical system in order to convey the TV L-Band satellite signal to home, DTH (Direct-To-Home). Since today, the most common procedure to do that is throughout 75-ohm coaxial cable directly from the receiver antenna to the TV systems. However, this doesn't mean that the method is optimal, and actually is not, having a typical attenuation for 1GHz of around 15 dB/100m. In order to try to increase these performances, the proposal of this project is to substitute the coaxial by an optical system. a monomode fiber link. This replacement will permit theoretically to set a longer link up to 10km of fiber with much better performances than in the coaxial.
