Introduction¶

VoIP and Streaming are protocols/applications more and more used on the Internet in the terrestrial network. Indeed 40% of the Internet’s traffic in the USA corresponds to the giant of the legal streaming Netflix. In addition to that, according to an OECD’s report, the streaming represents 90% of the Internet’s traffic in 2014. Moreover there is a rise in the utilization of applications such as Skype or Facetime… these applications use VoIP-family protocols like the VideoConference, the precursor.

The satellite links of a geostationary satellite permit to have broadband and broadcast capabilities very interesting for the video transmission. But mobile satellite communication channels are characterized by long transmission delays, variation of these delays, high bit-error-rates, shadowing and multipath effect which severely reduce the quality of video services.
