A Network Links¶

- A Network Links
Hereunder we will summarize the network links between our components:
Satellite-Antenna¶
This link will set the main characteristics of our connection, where a delay between 500-800 ms will be the main constraint of the link. This link is full duplex.
Antenna-Modem:¶
This is a one-wired link established with a coaxial cable. The communication will be full duplex, as this cable will transport both Uplink and downlink signals. The modem will translate this signal and send it to the router after some processing. This processing includes some TCP special configurations to optimize the satellite link (the modem acts as a Proxy).
Modem-Router:¶
This connection is an standard Half duplex Ethernet connection. The router will process the data obtained and will process it and route to the correct endpoint. The connection may be established with the connection labelled "internet" at the back of the box
Connections from/to the Mikrotik Router:¶
The router mikrotik is the heart of our communication system. He is in charge of the Routing, Firewall, QoS.
two kinds of links will be established wired and wireless links.
Wired links:¶
As the Ethernet wired link is faster and more secure, some wired links have been established:
IpDECT-Router:¶
The ipDECT is connected to the mikrotik router by an ethernet connection. The easiest way to configure it is accessing by web with any device connected to the mokrotik 192.168.88.0/24 lan. The IP has been set to 192.168.88.251 while the credentials are:
User: Admin
Password: *
The IP may be changed, as usual, at the mikrotik DHCP server configuration. It can be set to dynamic, but a static IP is advised, in order to make easier the configuration and to provide it's ip with QoS
Intel NUC¶
The Intel NUC ubuntu server is as well connected by Ethernet to the router:
IP: 192.168.88.242
User: Kasat
Password: *
Other server applications can be installed over the ubuntu server, such as Apache, Open VPN server...
Other devices:¶
Any device may be connected directly to the router or at the back of the box. For example, a fix voip phone could be connected and configured in the asterisk server afterwards to get an extra VoIP phone. To connect any device like laptops, an Ethernet link is advised in order to get the higher performance. A computer with a softphone may be connected and used.
Wireless links:¶
There are no devices connected to the Mikrotik router by default. However, any wifi dispositive may be able to connect with protocols 802.11b/g/n. The link is secured with WPA2 and the following credentials:
ESSID: kasat-terminal
WPA Key: **
DHCP: Enabled
IpDECT-VoIP Hardphones¶
The link between the IP-DECT and the Hardphones is a wireless link. While the default 1001, 1002 and 1003 terminals are configured and ready to be used, other hardphones may be connected and configured through the web portal of the IP-DECT. A registration with the asterisk Server will be needed as well if external calls are required.
This link is standalone, that means that even if the server Asterisk is not running, the voIP phones will be able to connect to each other, locally. No external connections can be established from the IP-DECT without configuration if the Asterisk server is not running.
By default, any external call is directed to the device labelled as "1001" while any device may be able to generate an external call
Connections through the Mikrotik router:¶
IpDECT-Asterisk¶
The most relevant link in our system for the Voip use case is the one established between the server asterisk and the IP-DECT. The IP-DECT will use the Asterisk server as the default way to stablish calls. Even local calls will be attempted to be established through the asterisk server.
Devices-Internet¶
Any device connected to the router, in any possible way offered by our system, may be able to connect directly to the Internet trough our satellite link or another internet link that may be established (an Ethernet connection providing internet from an external router for instance).
